Hallo ihr Lieben,

die Buchmesse war dieses Jahr wirklich sehr aufregend und hatte den ein oder anderen tollen Termin für mich. Wie das Interview mit Teri Terry, die die Gelöscht Trilogie und jetzt auch Mind Games geschrieben hat. Ich durfte sie bei Coppenrath treffen und möchte euch ihre Antworten natürlich nicht vorenthalten. Wie immer, sind die Fragen auf Deutsch und Englisch, damit auch jeder ihrer Fans es lesen und verstehen kann.


Fangen wir mit Mind Games an. Es geht hier ja um Augmented Reality, wie bei einigen anderen Büchern, die derzeit beliebt sind. Aber Sie scheinen das Ganze noch einen Schritt weiter zu tragen, indem alle Implantate tragen. Sind Sie der Meinung, dass diese Implante mal Wirklichkeit werden können?

Ich weiß es nicht genau. Als ich anfing dieses Buch zu schreiben, war ich in London essen und mir ist aufgefallen, dass viele Familien an den Tischen mit ihren Handies und iPads beschäftigt waren, anstatt sich zu unterhalten. Es scheint so, als würden wir immer weitere Schritte in diese Richtung nehmen, aber ich weiß nicht genau, wie weit es sich entwickeln wird. 



So let’s start with Mind Games. Augmented Reality is part of this book, like many other popular books these days, but you seem to take it one step further with the implants. Do you think implants are a possibility in the future?


I don’t know really. Around the time I started writing this, i’ve been out to dinner in London somewhere and looking around at all the people half of them were just ignoring each other. You have like a whole family and they all be on their phones or iPad. It just seems to me like its another step and another step and another step to how involved we get with our technology. But I don’t know if the science of it will ever be at that point.

Am Anfang war Mind Games ja ein eigenständiges Buch oder?

Ja, als ich es geschrieben habe schon.

Nein, ich habe eine Fortsetzung geschrieben. Das Buch heißt “Dangerous Games”. Es ist kein voller Roman, eher ein Viertel davon, also eine Kurzgeschichte. Es gab einige Dinge, die mich gestört haben, die ich weiter erklären wollte. Ich hätte Dangerous Games in einen kompletten Roman schreiben können oder wieder eine Trilogie daraus machen, aber ich war mit anderen Projekten beschäftigt und daher ist es nur eine Kurzgeschichte geworden, aber damit bin ich zufrieden.


You did say once that Mind Games was just a stand alone right?

It was when I wrote it.

But it’s not anymore…

Yeah I have written a sequel. It’s called Dangerous Games. It’s not full novel length. Its about a quarter of a novel. So it’s a short one. There were a lot of things that were bothering me that I kept wanting to go back to and I probably would have turned it into another full length novel or even a trilogy but I was committed to all these other things I have coming so I couldn’t really do it. So I decided to write a short one and I think it works quite well.

Also ist es ein Teil von Mind Games besser erklärt oder spielt es in der Zeit, nachdem es Seven gibt?

Dangerous Games ist über Seven’s Tochter, die 16 ist wenn das Buch anfängt, also spielt es in der Zukunft. Es erklärt den Nullraum besser und was Silber genau ist. Ich will ja nicht zuviel verraten. Ich hoffe, dass es in Deutschland erscheint, aber ich weiß es nicht. In England wird es im Dezember als eBook zu kaufen sein. Ich weiß nicht genau, ob es eine Print Version des Buchs geben wird.

So is it, part of Mind Games better explained or is it after Seven comes to be alive?

The sequel is actually about her daughter, so it’s set 16 years into the future. It does explain a bit more about what the void is and what silver is and all these kinds of things. I wouldn’t want to get too much of these things away. I am hoping it will be out in Germany but I am not sure yet. It’s coming out as an eBook at the start of December in English. I am not sure if they are going to do a print version of it.



Kurzgeschichten werden ja eigentlich nicht gedruckt oder?

Mein Verlag in England, Orchard Books, hat eigentlich noch nie mit Kurzgeschichten oder eBooks gearbeitet. Daher weiß ich nicht genau, was damit passieren wird, außer dass es als eBook erscheinen wird. Wir haben auch überlegt, ob wir eine Special Edition von Mind Games rausbringen sollen, mit Dangerous Minds als Anhang, aber wir haben uns noch nicht entschieden.

Novellas aren’t usually in print are they?

Well with my publisher in the UK Orchard Books – they haven’t actually done novellas or eBooks like that before so it’s something different that they are trying. I am not sure that we know yet what they are going to do with this. Apart from the fact that there is an eBook coming out. There had been talk about doing a special edition of Mind Games with that book in it at the end. We don’t know for sure yet.
