weiter geht’s mit dem Teri Terry Interview. Hattet ihr gestern Spaß?
Ich muss sagen, Teri ist eine super liebe Person. Sie ist locker drauf und lacht viel. So machen Interviews doch am meisten Spaß finde ich.



Na dann muss ich die Kurzgeschichte wohl lesen, weil ich Mind Games sehr gemocht habe. Mir ist da aber etwas aufgefallen. Als ich das Buch beendet habe, kam mir ein vertrautes Buch entgegen und zwar “Slated”. Sie haben Slated in Mind Games eingebaut und zwar in einer viel längeren Form, da die Kandidaten “Slated 12” spielen.

Stimmt. Die ersten drei Spiele basieren auf den Büchern und danach wurde einfach weiter geschrieben.

Well I do have to read the novella then since I really liked Mind Games and I have noticed something in the end. When I read the book on vacation last week and I got to the last few chapters you actually mention “Slated”. It kind of sounds like “Slated” got a lot longer in Mind Games because they are playing “Slated12”.

Yes, the first three episodes are based on the book series and then it just carries on.

Verbinden Sie ihre Bücher gerne?

Der Grund für die Verbindung ist eigentlich einfach. Ich wollte, dass die Kandidaten eine fiktionelle Welt besuchen, aber alles was mir einfiel war zu kompliziert. Hätte ich das Buch eines anderen Autoren genommen, hätte ich sicher erst um Erlaubnis fragen müssen. Und wenn es dann ein Buch gewesen wäre, was jeder liebt, hätten die Leser sauer werden können. Aber wenn ich mein eigenes Buch nehme, kann ich damit machen was ich will. Ich mochte die Idee und ich denke, auch die Leser werden diese Idee mögen, da sie ja virtuelle Buchwelten besuchen können.

Do you like connecting your books?


The reason I did that really, I haven’t really wanted to but I wanted them to visit a fictional world. But everything I thought of was a bit difficult. If I would have used somebody elses book I would have to have checked if I was even allowed to do that. But also if it was a book that everyone loved you have to be quite careful with what you do with it. In the end I decided if I used Slated I get away with all these issues because it’s mine and I can do whatever I want. That’s the reason I did it really. I liked the idea and I think people who like to read they would like the idea of being able to visit virtual worlds of these books.  

Es funktioniert wirklich gut, besonders weil viele Leute es mögen FanFictions zu schreiben und die Geschichte der Bücher weiter zu denken. Das ist ja quasi das, was die Hacker hier machen.

Genau. Ich dachte mir, es würde Spaß machen. Ich kann mich gerade nicht mehr dran erinnern, aber irgendwer hat mri mal gesagt, dass es keine gute Idee ist das zu tun, weil Menschen gerne denken, dass die Bücher real sind und wenn ich Slated nun hier einbaue, sage ich dass es nicht real ist. Ich fand das war ein interessanter Gedanke. Aber nur eine Person hat das jemals gesagt.

It works very well especially because people like to write fan fictions and imagine how the story would go on. That’s basically what the Hackers are doing here.

Exactly. I thought people would think its a lot of fun. I can’t remember now but someone told me it might not be a good idea to do that. Because people who read like to imagine that these things are real and if I put Slated in a book it’s like saying its not real anymore. I thought that was an interesting way of looking at it. But only one person ever said that.

Wenn wir uns die verschiedenen Cover von Mind Games ansehen, fällt ja auf, dass das Deutsche doch sehr anders is als das Englische, welches Schwarz und Silber ist. Gefallen Ihnen die verschiedenen Cover, die Sie für Ihre Bücher bekommen?

Es ist interessant. Mit Slated wurde das Cover eigentlich in fast jedem Land benutzt. Ich finde es immer spannend zu sehen, was andere Länder für Cover entwickeln. Es ist ja die Aufgabe der Verlage zu sehen, was die Menschen ansprechen würde in den verschiedenen Ländern. 
Ich glaube in Deutschland gibt es ein Buch, dass dem englischen Cover von Mind Games sehr ähnelt und daher wurde es geändert. Aber auch Brasilien hat ein anders Cover gewählt, dass habe ich auf Facebook gepostet. Das ist auch ein sehr interessantes Cover. Mehr Sci-Fi, blau und rot. Das fand ich ziemlich cool.

Looking at the different covers of Mind Games, it changed quite a bit from the English one, which is black and silver. The German one is more fractal and colorful. Do you like the different covers you get?

It’s interesting. With Slated most of the countries used the same UK cover, but not all of them. I actually found it really excited seeing the other ones because it is really exciting seeing your book covers for the first time and getting different versions of them. And of course with Mind Games they are always looking at what will appeal to people. The publishing house should be the best judge of that.
I think there is a book out in Germany that looks very similar to the UK cover and that’s why they had to change it. It’s quite fun seeing different takes on it and actually the Mind Games cover of Brasil has been out for a bit which I posted on my facebook page and it’s another really interesting one. More Sci-Fi, blue and red. I thought it was quite cool.
